Covenant is a legal agreement binding on two or more individuals whose mutual interests are involved. It is legal because every covenant has term and conditions binding on the parties.
Once covenant is sealed, both parties are entitled to their respective benefits. From creation God has never walked with his creatures without covenant
Gen 2:15-17 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
God gave man Eden, to freely eat everything
God agreed with Adam not eat the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The condition is if he disobey, he will die.
Every covenant practice pays (Gen 8:22).

From Abraham ((Gen 12:1-4) To Isaac (Gen 26:1-2, 12-14) To Jacob (Gen 28:18-22)
To Jephthah (Judges 11)
To Apostles (Acts 1:4-8, 2:1-3) In Duet 28:1-2, God spoke to us.
